Dr. Frank Turek Discusses Christianity and Engagement at UC Berkeley Event

Dr. Frank Turek, a mentor and friend to Charlie Kirk, recently spoke to Fox News Digital ahead of his participation in the final tour of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), titled “This Is the Turning Point,” held at the University of California, Berkeley. Turek is also noted as the co-author of “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist,” with his organization, CrossExamined.org, actively presenting evidence of Christianity across various platforms including schools and online.

The connection between Turek and Kirk dates back to early 2020 when Kirk sought Turek’s guidance on engaging students about Christianity. “He wanted to enhance his ability to present the evidence of Christianity and tackle questions effectively,” Turek explained. Their collaboration quickly evolved into a friendship.

Turek revealed that Kirk was involved in organizing TPUSA’s “The American Comeback” tour, which unfortunately had to be renamed following Kirk’s tragic death in September. “We had spent a significant amount of time preparing for this tour that tragically began on September 10th, the day he was murdered,” he shared.

The UC Berkeley event held particular significance for Turek. He expressed, “If I could attend one event with him, it would be that one. I was drawn to UC Berkeley’s progressive environment and wanted to demonstrate the truth of Christianity.” He also remarked on the shift in the university’s attitude toward free speech over the decades, noting that posters displayed around the campus with messages like “Fascists, Zionists, get out!” indicated a suppression of dialogue regarding the upcoming event.

Turek highlighted the irony in Berkeley’s transformation, stating, “In the 1960s, Berkeley fought for free speech, and now it seems many there wish to suppress such freedoms.” He found it disheartening that, while advocating for inclusivity, some fail to tolerate differing opinions.

In response to the situation, an associate professor clarified that the controversial poster was linked to an outside group with no affiliation to the university. The deputy prime minister affirmed the rights of registered student organizations to invite any event speakers, assuring collaboration with law enforcement to ensure a safe environment.

According to Turek, many discussions nowadays rely more on slogans than on substantial evidence. He countered those labeling TPUSA as fascist by emphasizing that Kirk’s approach encourages open dialogues with critics, rather than silencing dissenting opinions. “Real fascism silences others,” Turek argued, asserting that many who claim to advocate for dialogue actually seek to cut it off entirely.

Looking ahead, Turek urged Christians to embolden their values and participate actively in politics, stressing that laws and governance can significantly affect their voices and freedom to practice their faith. “We should do the right thing and leave the results to God,” he concluded.
