Sen. Lankford Denounces Nick Fuentes
Senator James Lankford, a Republican from Oklahoma, has sharply criticized the “hateful rhetoric” associated with far-right nationalist Nick Fuentes, asserting that Fuentes does not embody Republican principles.
During an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” host Kristen Welker probed Lankford about a recent discussion between Fuentes and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. She labeled Fuentes a “white supremacist” known for expressing admiration for Adolf Hitler.
Welker asked, “Do you think there is room in the Republican Party for Nick Fuentes or anyone who shares his ideology?”—a question that highlighted Lankford’s role as co-chair of the Senate Bipartisan Select Committee on Combating Anti-Semitism.
Lankford responded firmly, “No, it’s not. It’s not conservative ideology at all. It’s hateful rhetoric that contradicts both the Republican Party and the U.S. Constitution.”
He further emphasized, “So, no, that’s not us. The Republican Party and conservatism have long stood up for all individuals.”
A devout Christian with a background as a minister, Lankford pointed out the nation’s legacy of inclusivity, referencing a letter written by former President Washington to a Jewish congregation in 1790. “To those he called ‘the descendants of Abraham,’ they would live in peace without fear under their own vine and under their own fig tree,” Lankford explained.
He added, “Since our nation’s founding, we have welcomed all faiths in this country. But we absolutely and strongly oppose anti-Semitism, and we must continue to make that clear.”
The decision by Carlson to feature Fuentes has ignited considerable debate within conservative circles, particularly at the Heritage Foundation.
Initially, Heritage Chairman Kevin Roberts expressed support for Carlson but later issued an apology, clarifying that the organization does not endorse Fuentes or his views, making headlines for the wrong reasons once again.
Meanwhile, Carlson, who has emerged as a favorite commentator for former President Trump, defended his choice to host Fuentes. Since his departure from Fox News, he has continued to draw attention by featuring various controversial figures on his online show and media platform.
