During an episode of “The View,” Democratic Senator John Fetterman faced boos from the audience after co-host Whoopi Goldberg announced his upcoming appearance. This happened following his decision to collaborate with Republicans to resolve the ongoing government shutdown.
Goldberg mentioned, “I can talk to him about this tomorrow…Sen. John Fetterman will be here tomorrow,” which elicited a loud reaction from viewers.
It seemed Goldberg briefly acknowledged the hecklers before continuing the segment, stating, “So we’re going to ask him, ‘What the heck?'”
Fetterman, part of a group of Senate Democrats that includes eight members who partnered with Republicans, has sparked criticism from progressive factions for his actions in pursuit of a government reopening.
Goldberg and her fellow hosts expressed strong disapproval of the senators’ decisions. Co-host Sunny Hostin remarked that Democrats were “failing the American people.”
Fetterman’s vote—along with those from six other Democrats and Senator Angus King—indicated a rift in the party. Several members, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Bernie Sanders, have promised to oppose the legislation until more health care funding is included.
Since the government shutdown began on October 1, a stalemate between Democrats and Republicans has persisted, with Republicans needing 60 votes to bypass the Senate’s filibuster. Both parties remain at an impasse regarding the extension of Obamacare subsidies, which expired recently.
Fetterman has publicly voiced concerns about his party’s delay in reopening the government, labeling the shutdown a “policy failure.” It’s clear that the situation remains complicated, with ongoing discussions and differing viewpoints among lawmakers.
