Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown Celebrates Touchdown with Unique Dance
Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown found an interesting way to celebrate a touchdown during the first quarter against the Washington Commanders—he performed President Donald Trump’s signature dance. The touchdown catch, which was 9 yards long, marked his eighth of the season as the Lions defeated the Commanders 44-22. St. Brown ended the game with five receptions for 58 yards.
When questioned about his celebration and if it was planned, St. Brown responded, “I heard Mr. Trump was going to be at the game. We just decided to have fun and dance because we don’t know how many games the president is going to play.” It’s worth noting that it’s quite uncommon for a sitting U.S. president to attend an NFL regular season game; the last occurrence was when Jimmy Carter watched a game in 1978.
Trump had attended Super Bowl XI in New Orleans and made a visit to a Pittsburgh Steelers game during his campaign last year. St. Brown had some fun while also participating in a segment that read out names of new U.S. military recruits, but he didn’t enter the game until the second quarter.
The game also featured a tribute to veterans through the NFL’s “Salute” event. Mark Close, President of the Commanders Club, stated, “We are honored to welcome President Trump to the game as we honor those who have served and continue to serve our country. The entire Commanders organization is proud to join the NFL in a league-wide service effort this Sunday to recognize the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, active duty military, and their families.”
In the past 13 months, the president has made appearances at various sporting events, including last year’s Steelers game, the Super Bowl, and even a UFC match, among others.
