Travis Hunter’s Rookie Season Concludes

Travis Hunter’s inaugural season has come to an end. The two-way player for the Jaguars had successful surgery on Tuesday to fix a torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, which means he will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2025 season.

The Jaguars confirmed there was no additional damage to Hunter’s knee, which he injured during a practice session on October 30, leading to his initial placement on injured reserve.

According to the team’s statement, Hunter, 22, “is expected to return to full football activities within six months.”

It’s a disappointment, especially given that Hunter had just delivered what many considered the best game of his young career in Week 7 against the Rams in London. That might have been a pivotal moment, but, well, you know how injuries can change everything.

In that overseas game, Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, recorded eight catches for 101 yards and a touchdown, showing he could play a crucial role in Jacksonville’s offense.

This season, he’s accumulated 28 receptions for 298 yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side, he’s registered 15 tackles and three pass breakups. Hunter’s time on the field has been split with 67 percent of his plays on offense and 36 percent on defense.

Jacksonville’s first-round draft pick, selected second overall in April, has been a key addition to the team. They actually traded up to bring him on board, sending a second-round pick this year and a first-round pick in 2026 to the Browns.

Recently, the Jaguars have faced several injuries among their receivers. For instance, Brian Thomas Jr. missed the Week 10 game due to an ankle issue, while Dyami Brown dealt with a concussion during Week 9. To bolster their receiving corps, they made a move right before the trade deadline to acquire Jacobi Meyers.
