Duchess of Cambridge Honors Veterans on Armistice Day

On Veterans Day, also known as Armistice Day, the Duchess of Cambridge visited the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, where she met with World War II veterans. One notable attendee, a 100-year-old veteran named Bill Redstone, mentioned he attributed his longevity and good health to his active lifestyle.

According to reports, Redstone shared with the Princess of Wales that he completed the London Marathon at the age of 65 and, shortly after, the New York Marathon as well. This was shared in a video on social media by Penn State reporter Stephanie Wareham.

The Duchess, who holds various honorary military titles, including Captain of the Irish Guards and Commander of the 1st Queen’s Dragoons, also engaged with the family of Squadron Leader Mark Long, who tragically passed away in a Spitfire crash last year, as noted by the Wareham News Agency.

Geoffrey Spencer, a D-Day veteran and former RAF bomber commander, had a light-hearted exchange with Prince George, saying he enjoyed building model Lancaster bombers as much as actually flying them, to which the 12-year-old replied that he felt he knew more about planes than Spencer did.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle shared a video of her husband, Prince Harry, during his time serving in Afghanistan. In it, he jumped out of an interview to help his comrades, emphasizing the sentiment that “once you serve, always serve.”

Markle expressed gratitude to all who have served, saying, “We salute you on Veterans Day. And every day.” This shows her ongoing support for the military community.

Duchess Kate, continuing her close ties with military organizations like the Invictus Games, shared photos of her interactions with veterans. Similarly, Prince William marked the occasion by posting a video of himself and King Charles meeting WWII veterans at Windsor Castle.

Reflecting on his experience, William highlighted the honor of celebrating 80 years since the end of the Second World War in the Far East, acknowledging the sacrifices made by veterans from the UK and Commonwealth. It’s a poignant reminder of the bravery that has shaped history.

Both Princes Harry and William, having served in the military themselves, maintain a strong connection to those who have dedicated their lives in service to their country.
