Domestic Violence Incident on Florida Highway
A father allegedly leaped from the driver’s seat of his family’s car during a tumultuous domestic violence episode on a highway in Florida, leaving his wife and three children inside the moving vehicle, according to authorities.
On Tuesday, a child called 911 to report a disturbance between the parents, later recognized as Heather and Albert Searcy, while they were driving along Highway 79 near the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Police responded quickly, locating the car and activating their sirens to compel Albert to pull over. However, while driving, he opened the door and jumped from the vehicle.
As this unfolded, Heather crawled to the center console, secured her children inside, and managed to stop the car.
Upon speaking with the family, deputies noticed signs of a physical struggle and saw that Heather had injuries on her face.
She shared that during the harrowing ride, she repeatedly asked Albert to stop the car and let the children out, but he allegedly refused.
After realizing that their child had contacted 911, Albert reportedly struck the child and seized their phone.
Heather informed deputies that the family had recently moved from Louisiana and was returning home.
Medical assistance was provided to the family, while Albert was taken into custody at the Washington County Jail.
His mugshot revealed a bloodied face and an expression of distress, highlighting the bizarre nature of the incident.
Officials reported that Albert faces multiple charges, including domestic violence, child abuse, fleeing law enforcement, false imprisonment, and driving with a suspended license.
