Australian Bagpipers Set World Record with AC/DC Performance

On Wednesday, a remarkable assembly of bagpipers in Australia broke a world record by performing AC/DC’s “Long Walk to the Top.”

Federation Square in Melbourne was filled with thousands of spectators who witnessed 374 pipers take the stage. Among them was a 98-year-old performer, making the event quite memorable.

Included in the gathering were Les Kenfield and Kevin Conlon, two of the members from Rats of Tobruk Memorial Pipes and Drums, who had shared the spotlight with AC/DC in a 1976 music video filmed at the same location.

“At the time, we had no idea this event would become this big,” Kenfield reflected, expressing surprise at the turnout during an interview. “Right now, it’s one of the greatest things. Probably the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

The Australian Record Book has verified that this impressive display of pipers surpassed the previous record of 333 set in Bulgaria back in 2012.

Once they were declared world record holders, the jubilant pipers treated the crowd to an encore, playing “Happy Birthday” and “Amazing Grace.”

Federation Square, located close to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, was particularly buzzing that day, as AC/DC was slated to perform their first Australian concert in a decade later that evening as part of their ‘Power Up’ tour.

Many enthusiastic participants came dressed in AC/DC T-shirts, eagerly anticipating both the performance and the concert that followed.

One devoted fan, Keegan Kohler, made the trek from Columbus, Ohio, just to catch the band live, although he missed the record-breaking moment. “I think the crowds in Australia are much better than in the United States. I think there will be more events, more headbanging, and more excitement with the crowd,” he remarked.

As of that moment, Guinness World Records had not yet been approached to review the record attempt made on Wednesday.
