Aegean Airlines Tops In-Flight Meal Rankings
Aegean Airlines is gaining a reputation for its in-flight meals, according to a recent analysis.
Research conducted by Canstar Travel Insurance examined over 125,000 passenger reviews from various platforms, such as Airlinemeals.net and Skytrax, to evaluate the best airlines for in-flight dining.
Despite operating a fleet of only 83 aircraft, Aegean Airlines emerged as the overall champion in the Best Inflight Catering category.
The Greek airline secured the top spot with a score of 7.82 out of 10, surpassing many larger airlines thanks to its “fresh local cuisine and authentic Greek hospitality.”
The research highlights that the airline’s menu embodies the Greek philosophy of “filema,” which translates to “love and kindness through food.”
Passengers across all cabin classes can savor genuine Greek dishes, while those in business class experience meals crafted by Greek chefs and sommeliers.
Other notable airlines in the rankings include Qatar Airways in second place, Asiana Airlines in third, EVA Air in fourth, and Singapore Airlines in fifth.
Asian airlines particularly excelled, with seven making it into the top 10. South Korea and Japan are the only nations with multiple entries on that list.
Asiana Airlines, representing South Korea, ranked third, while Korean Air came in sixth. Japan’s All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines took the seventh and eighth spots, respectively.
The first U.S.-based airline to feature on the list is JetBlue, which claimed the 18th position with a score of 6.92. Its business class service, JetBlue Mint, was slightly lower at 24th place, with a score of 6.78.
Hawaiian Airlines, on the other hand, placed 31st with a 6.69 score, while Delta Air Lines landed at 46th with a 6.44. American Airlines and United Airlines barely scraped the bottom of the list at 93rd and 94th, respectively, with American Eagle coming in at 76th.
Interestingly, when ranked by class, JetBlue Airways came in seventh for business class, and Delta Air Lines ranked tenth for first class.
Many major international airlines also struggled with in-flight meal rankings. For instance, Qantas was ranked 51st, British Airways 54th, and Air France 70th.
Canstar Travel Insurance mentioned, “In-flight food has long been the target of jokes, but airlines are increasingly recognizing the importance of the in-flight experience in a competitive market.”
“Our research indicates that not all in-flight meals impress, but the risk of getting sick is very low. With comprehensive travel insurance, you can be ready for any surprises for just a few dollars a day.”
