Tucker Carlson Apologizes for Comments About Liz Cheney
Tucker Carlson, co-founder of the Daily Caller News Foundation, expressed regret on Wednesday over remarks he made regarding Liz Cheney after the passing of her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney.
Following Dick Cheney’s death, Carlson had commented during an interview with Megyn Kelly on SiriusXM, mentioning he would “consider” suicide if he had a daughter like Liz Cheney. In a recent episode of the Tucker Carlson show, he acknowledged that he went after Cheney’s daughter “in a vicious manner” and admitted it was hard to believe he actually said those things.
He reflected, “I did express that if I were her father, I’d be ashamed of her. And then I went on to suggest that I might end my life over it, which is obviously a terrible thing to say. It’s quite unbelievable.” Carlson added that while he voiced those opinions, he was mentally listing people he had negative feelings towards, implying Liz Cheney was at the top of that list. He remarked, “You can say whatever you want about her. It feels like she’s not really human. It’s bizarre to say something like if I were her father, I would commit suicide. Who would think that? But I did.”
“So, I just want to say I’m sorry,” he continued. “Liz Cheney, and I genuinely mean that. I shouldn’t have said that.”
During his appearance with Kelly, Carlson had also criticized Dick Cheney, labeling his daughter a “disgusting” figure. He has been outspoken in his criticisms of the former vice president, characterizing him as a “neocon warmonger” and a “hateful person.” According to Carlson, former President Trump holds a stronger love for America than Liz Cheney.
Carrying further criticisms, Carlson pointed out Liz Cheney’s involvement in the January 6 special committee and her praise for comments made by former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Dick Cheney passed away on November 4 at the age of 84, due to complications from pneumonia and cardiovascular disease.
