Senator John Fetterman Hospitalized After Fall

Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, was hospitalized following a fall that resulted in a facial injury during an early morning walk on Thursday.

According to Fetterman’s office, he experienced a flare-up of ventricular fibrillation, which contributed to his loss of balance and subsequent fall.

“During an early morning walk, Sen. Fetterman fell near his home in Braddock. Out of an abundance of caution, he was taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh. Tests confirmed a recurrence of ventricular fibrillation, which caused Sen. Fetterman to feel unsteady, fall to the ground, and hit his face, sustaining minor injuries,” the spokesperson shared on X.

Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is a serious heart condition where the ventricles shake rather than pump blood properly, leading to decreased blood flow that, without immediate treatment, can be life-threatening.

“Senator Fetterman said, ‘If you thought I looked bad before, wait until you see my face now!’ He is doing well and is undergoing regular follow-ups at the hospital. He has opted to stay so doctors can refine his medication. Sen. Fetterman expressed gratitude to the medical team who attended to him.”

This incident comes after Fetterman had already faced significant health challenges, having suffered a stroke in May 2022 while campaigning for his Senate seat. Recently, he has discussed his struggles with depression in interviews, expressing that he felt a deep sense of desperation during his recovery.

“Honestly, I know that millions of Americans are suffering from this disease. And when you hear the expression, ‘I can’t get out of bed,’ it’s true,” Fetterman reflected.

He emphasized the importance of discussing mental health openly, stating that he doesn’t regret being vulnerable about his experiences to help others feel less isolated.

“This is an honest conversation because a lot of people have been through that, and I’ve had many individuals reach out to me over the years since. It’s an honor to share these stories. For some, feeling alone can be heartbreaking,” he added.

When asked specifically about suicidal thoughts, he confirmed they were part of his struggles and stressed that such feelings aren’t a sign of weakness. He reassured those facing similar challenges that recovery is possible with persistence.
