VP Vance Discusses Government Reopening
Vice President J.D. Vance addressed the recent reopening of the federal government during an interview on “Hannity,” expressing that the shutdown was “all in vain” and inflicted considerable hardship on the American public.
“This is the result of what the Democrats accomplished. They created significant stress for our military, underpaid air traffic controllers, caused numerous flight cancellations, and left many feeling anxious about food assistance,” Vance stated. He described the entire ordeal as essentially pointless.
Vance pointed out that the agreement that ended the shutdown was the same proposal that Democratic leaders had previously dismissed weeks earlier.
“We could have reached this agreement 45 days ago,” he commented. “We were in discussions with Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer and indicated we would allow the deal to move forward. Their response was no.”
Continuing, he praised President Donald Trump’s leadership during the 43-day impasse, asserting, “We anticipated this outcome.”
Vance noted that Trump consistently indicated that Democrats would ultimately realize the necessity of reopening the government, adding, “They have done just that.”
On Wednesday night, Trump signed a bill to fund the government again, which he had implied was necessary due to escalating issues like unpaid federal workers and airline disruptions linked to a lack of air traffic controllers.
The legislation maintains government funding at the current level until January 30 in fiscal year 2025, allowing for extended planning of long-term spending solutions for fiscal year 2026.
The bill also supports the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), crucial for over 42 million Americans, ensuring funding through September. This program aids low-income families in buying groceries with a debit card.
