Patriots win eighth straight game with Drake Maye's help against Jets

Patriots Defeat Jets in Thursday Night Football

The New England Patriots kept up their winning streak by beating the New York Jets, 27-14, during Thursday Night Football. With this victory, the Patriots have now won eight consecutive games and hold a 9-2 record for the season. Meanwhile, the Jets, who had struggled at the beginning of the season with seven losses, saw their slight resurgence come to an end.

Before the game, many expected a dominant performance from the Patriots, and while the scoreboard didn’t entirely reflect it, their rookie running back certainly stole the show.

Treveyon Henderson shone brightly, following up his impressive 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week with another explosive performance, adding three touchdowns to his season total. He was the only player from the Patriots to score, initiating a key drive that brought the team to a tie at seven after a precise 13-play, 69-yard effort.

Later in the first half, Henderson extended that lead, breaking free from a seven-yard distance to make it 14-7. Following that, the Patriots began to pull ahead when quarterback Drake Maye, who is in the MVP conversation, made some solid plays, ultimately setting up another touchdown pass to Henderson, leaving him open in the end zone.

Overall, Henderson finished the game with 62 rushing yards from 19 carries and added 31 receiving yards on five catches. In contrast, the Jets, led by Justin Fields, faced struggles offensively. Despite a decent 14-play opening drive capped off by Fields rushing for a touchdown, the team couldn’t maintain momentum.

Fields had a tough outing despite a previous win where he shined thanks to special teams. He managed just 54 passing yards with a rating of 60.4. He completed 15 out of 26 passes for 116 yards and connected on a touchdown pass to John Metchie III during the third quarter, closing the gap to 21-14.

However, negative moments eclipsed the positives, such as a lost fumble in the fourth quarter, which proved costly given their proximity to a comeback. In the end, the Patriots managed to run out the clock, securing what the home crowd hoped for in Mike Vrabel’s inaugural season: a winning record.

There’s still a bit of work ahead, but the Patriots are navigating the season well above .500.

Looking at the box score, Maye completed 25 of 34 passes for a solid 281 yards with one touchdown to Henderson. Stefon Diggs contributed by leading the team with nine receptions and a total of 105 yards. Meanwhile, the Jets’ best receiver was Metchie, who caught three passes for 45 yards, while Breece Hall had 58 rushing yards on 14 carries, and Fields tallied 67 rushing yards on 11 attempts.
