Kai Trump shows progress in LPGA debut but falls short of making the cut at Annika

Kai Trump, the granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, showed improvement after a challenging debut at the LPGA tour. On her second day at the Anika tournament, she managed to lower her score by eight strokes compared to her first round.

After her Friday performance, Trump expressed feeling “at peace,” which she contrasted with her nerves from the previous day. “I was definitely very nervous the first day, and I think the nerves got to me,” she reflected. “Today, I honestly felt very calm and peaceful. That’s why I played better.”

Perhaps this shift in mindset helped her. Despite early mistakes on the third through fifth holes, she bounced back by scoring birdies on three of the next six holes. “Things are going to happen,” she said about her challenges. “The best thing I can do is move on.” In fact, she mentioned laughing about her missteps, indicating a willingness to let go of mistakes.

Unfortunately, Trump finished last among 108 players, unable to move on to the weekend competition. Her total score was 18-over 158, which fell 27 strokes behind the leader, Grace Kim, and 17 strokes away from the cut line.

Nonetheless, her performance received encouragement from notable figures in women’s golf. Charlie Hull gave her a nod, saying, “This is really good considering this isn’t just an easy LPGA event. This is probably one of the hardest courses we play.” Hull reminisced about being nervous in her first LPGA event and acknowledged the pressure Trump faced.
