Heartfelt tribute to fallen FDNY hero Patrick Brady as hundreds gather for wake

Firefighters Mourn Heroic Colleague in Brooklyn

During a wake in Brooklyn on Friday, hundreds of firefighters gathered to honor Patrick Brady, a dedicated hero who had recently passed away. His wife, overwhelmed by grief, fondly referred to him as her “rock” while delivering a poignant eulogy as they paid their respects at his casket.

Brady, 42, tragically lost his life while combating a significant fire in Brownsville the previous Saturday night. He was celebrated outside his Marine Park service, remembered as a “larger than life man” and a genuinely good person.

“Every story shared, every hug, and every kind word has helped me cope with the loss of Patrick, my husband, my best friend, and the love of my life,” his wife, Carla Brady, reflected during a news conference following the gathering.

With emotional intensity, she added, “If I could choose anyone in the world to love, I would choose him over and over again.” Carla spoke of Brady’s natural charm, noting how he could effortlessly lift others’ spirits and make everyone feel valued. “The fire station was his second home, and I’m forever thankful he was surrounded by his second family that night,” she mentioned.

Brady, an 11-year veteran of the FDNY and a member of Bravest, suffered a heart attack while on the roof of a six-story building where the fire occurred. As firefighters gathered, uniformed police officers formed a procession around the Marine Park Funeral Home, paying tribute by saluting Brady’s casket.

“Patrick was larger than life,” said FDNY Battalion Chief Scott Coyne outside the wake. He emphasized that Brady embodied the qualities of an ideal firefighter and, more importantly, a truly good individual. Coyne described him fondly, stating he was “everyone’s favorite bartender” and had “become a legend” in the department.

FDNY Director John Esposito remarked, “Pat Brady was one of our best players,” reinforcing the high regard in which Brady was held by his colleagues.

Mayor Eric Adams and Attorney General Letitia James attended the wake, which started with family members present. Brady’s brothers, Jimmy and Brian, along with his cousin and uncle, also retired or active firefighters, were highlighted by the department earlier this week.

This tragic loss marks the second line-of-duty death within two weeks for the department. Just days earlier, Paramedic Salif Abdul Rahman had passed away after completing a training session at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall Island.
