UFC Bans Dillon Danis Following Incident at UFC 322
The UFC has decided to ban Dillon Danis from future events after a clash with Islam Makhachev’s team during UFC 322 on Saturday. Notably, Danis had previously trained with renowned fighter Conor McGregor, while Makhachev is a current UFC champion. Both fighters were present at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the event.
UFC CEO Dana White announced that Danis will no longer be allowed to participate in UFC-sanctioned events. A disturbance reportedly occurred near the cage just before the main card kicked off, featuring Makhachev in a headlining bout against Jacques Della Maddalena.
According to video footage from the scene, tensions escalated when Danis got into a scuffle with Makhachev’s teammates, Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Magomed Zainukov.
After the incident, White addressed reporters, stating that he didn’t plan to file charges against Danis, but hinted at potential disciplinary action against the 32-year-old fighter. He reflected on the situation, saying, “I was on the other side [of the Octagon], and I thought, ‘Hmm, I know exactly what this is.’ You’ll never see Dillon Danis in a UFC fight again.”
White took responsibility for the chaotic scene, admitting, “Actually, I’m blaming myself for that.” Interestingly, Danis had faced consequences in the past, including a seven-month suspension and a fine following a similar altercation in 2018 after McGregor’s match with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
