LeBron James Reacts to Incident Involving Texas Trooper
Lakers star LeBron James expressed his outrage after a Texas state trooper physically interacted with two players from South Carolina during their game against Texas A&M in College Station.
Nick Harbaugh, a receiver, and running back Oscar Adaway III were making their way through the tunnel following Harbaugh’s impressive 80-yard touchdown catch when the trooper seemingly attempted to collide with them. The officer continued to follow the players, gesturing as if to scold them.
James took to social media to voice his discontent, tweeting, “That A&M cop should be suspended! That was premeditated and corny AF! He went out of his way to start something. Try harder.” He later shared the tweet on his Instagram Story, adding three red siren emojis for emphasis.
In response to the incident, Texas A&M Police removed the officer from his post at the game. According to reports, the situation drew further attention, including ESPN’s coverage.
ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith, who has previously had a public disagreement with James, echoed the sentiment in a retweet. He commented, “Exactly! I completely agree,” emphasizing the officer’s deliberate actions towards Harbaugh who had just scored a touchdown. Smith described it as an incident that warranted suspension and expressed his disbelief that the officer would act that way, especially since he knew who the player was.
In a video shared on Instagram, Smith stated, “It’s automatic suspension,” discussing the necessity for accountability in such situations. He questioned why the trooper felt it was acceptable to confront a player like that and stressed that such behavior from officials is inexcusable.
The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed their awareness of the incident. They stated that the involved trooper was sent home, and an investigation by the Office of Inspector General would ensue, although no further details were provided at that time.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M celebrated its 10-0 record after a thrilling 31-30 comeback win over South Carolina.
