Can the Chiefs Win the AFC West?
The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up to take on the Denver Broncos this Sunday. Patrick Mahomes expressed confidence, stating, “We can find a way to win the AFC West.” But, is that really a viable expectation for a team sitting at 5-4? It’s an intriguing question.
During the game, tensions flared when Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce found himself in a heated exchange with Broncos defensive back Jaquan McMillian. It all happened in the second quarter after Kelce caught a 10-yard pass, which helped him secure a first down. Several Broncos players were involved in bringing him down, with McMillian making quite the impact by landing on Kelce’s chest.
They briefly locked eyes, and it seemed a few choice words were shared before they moved back to their respective huddles. At that moment, Kelce had accumulated two catches for 14 yards, but the Chiefs’ offense struggled to break through the Broncos’ defense.
Eventually, Kansas City managed to tie the game with a field goal from Harrison Butker, resulting in a 6-6 deadlock.
Despite a rough start this season, Kelce seems to be finding his stride. After a tough stretch over the first ten weeks, he finished the bye week with 41 catches for 540 yards and three touchdowns. Not too shabby, really.
On the other side, McMillian is in his fourth year with the Broncos. He’s recorded 29 tackles, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two sacks across ten games. It’s worth noting he joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent from East Carolina back in 2022.
With both teams entering this key AFC West matchup looking for a victory for various reasons—Denver aiming for the division title and Kansas City hoping for a wild card spot—the stakes couldn’t be higher.
