Jalen Ramsey Ejected Following Altercation with Ja’Marr Chase
Jalen Ramsey was ejected during Sunday’s game after claiming that Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase spat on him, prompting Ramsey to throw a punch.
Security personnel had to escort him off the field, and Steelers offensive lineman Broderick Jones was observed trying to help calm down Ramsey’s teammates as they headed to the locker room.
After the Steelers’ victory, which ended 34-12, Ramsey told the media about the incident, saying, “With all due respect, I don’t give a damn about the football after that.”
However, Chase denied these allegations, stating, “I never spoke to that guy. I didn’t spit on anyone.”
The tension between the two players intensified as the game advanced.
CBS analyst Trent Green remarked during the broadcast that he believed Ramsey should have been penalized for a perceived late hit on Chase in the second quarter.
During that play, Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco was unbothered while passing to Chase, and it seemed like Ramsey took a few extra steps towards Chase afterward.
Things escalated further early in the fourth quarter.
Both players returned to the field after a no-gain rush by the Bengals’ Kendall Milton. Shortly after, Ramsey appeared to grab Chase’s face mask and lightly tapped him with his right hand.
Chase didn’t retaliate, but Ramsey was ejected just over 12 minutes into the fourth quarter.
The Bengals capitalized on a penalty for a first down and ended that drive with a 43-yard field goal by Evan McPherson, narrowing the Steelers’ lead to eight points.
Chase had a relatively quiet game, finishing with just 14 yards on two receptions.
Meanwhile, Ramsey, a ten-year veteran starting his first season with the Steelers, managed to record two tackles and two assists prior to his ejection.
