OJ Simpson's Estate Will Pay Wrongful Death Settlement

Fred Goldman May Receive Funds from O.J. Simpson’s Estate

It looks like Fred Goldman, the father of Ron Goldman, might finally get a share of the millions from the 1997 wrongful death judgment against O.J. Simpson. This case is one of the most notorious true crime stories from the past few decades. Ron Goldman was only 25 when he was killed alongside Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson.

In 1995, a jury in Los Angeles acquitted Simpson of the murder charges after a highly publicized trial that captivated the nation. However, in a subsequent civil suit, a different jury found him liable for the murders, awarding Goldman’s parents $33.5 million in damages over a year later.

Back in the summer of 1994, the police discovered Nicole brutally murdered outside her home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Ron Goldman was also found dead, likely fighting back against his attackers.

Over the years, Fred Goldman has struggled to recover much of the compensation, which, due to interest accrued over three decades, has reportedly ballooned to over $100 million.

Now, developments have emerged as Simpson’s estate has reportedly accepted a claim for $57,997,858 following negotiations with Goldman. Initially, Fred Goldman had put forth a claim exceeding $117 million, which included interest owed on unpaid judgments.

However, Malcolm LaVergne, the estate’s executor, disagreed with Goldman’s figures and proposed half of what was requested. It appears Fred Goldman has now agreed to that offer.

According to reports, LaVergne stated that the estate aims to disburse as much as possible from the ongoing auction of items once belonging to Simpson, including some controversial memorabilia from a previous robbery incident.

It’s still unclear if these items relate to the memorabilia connected to Simpson’s 2008 armed robbery conviction, for which he served nine years in prison.

Furthermore, the current value of Simpson’s estate remains undisclosed.

After his illustrious football career with the Buffalo Bills, Simpson transitioned into acting and broadcasting. He passed away from prostate cancer last April at the age of 76.

Interestingly, this agreement marks a shift from LaVergne’s earlier stance that the Goldman family wouldn’t receive anything from Simpson’s estate after his death.
