Sam Darnold tosses four interceptions in Seahawks' defeat against Rams

Despite a near comeback against the Rams, Sam Darnold likely wants to erase Sunday’s 21-19 defeat from his memory. Darnold threw four interceptions, one of which came in the fourth quarter. At that moment, the Seahawks were in the red zone, potentially setting themselves up for crucial points while trailing 21-12.

“Even with the turnovers, I felt like we were moving the ball well,” Darnold shared after the game. “But finishing in the red zone—that was huge. We just can’t turn the ball over like we did. We need to learn from this and watch the tape.”

This loss not only cost the Seahawks a critical divisional game but also placed the Rams ahead in the NFC West standings. It also contributed to ongoing concerns regarding Darnold’s performance under pressure, echoing doubts from the past.

Last season, while with the Vikings, he struggled against the Lions, finishing with just 166 passing yards in a Week 18 game that cost his team the top seed in the NFC playoffs. Similarly, Darnold failed to throw a touchdown on Sunday.

“I need to improve personally,” he admitted. He completed 29 of 44 passes for 279 yards but couldn’t convert those opportunities into points.

The day started poorly for Darnold, as his first interception came early in the game, allowing the Rams to score a touchdown quickly. Later, he had another miscue right after halftime, leading to another Rams touchdown and extending their lead to 21-12. Although he made a late push, finishing with an 84-yard drive that brought the Seahawks within two points, it ultimately wasn’t enough to secure a win.
