Eagles narrowly defeat Lions following a disputed pass interference decision

Eagles Squeak Out Victory with Controversial Call

The Eagles managed to secure yet another close win on Sunday night, but not without a contentious moment involving the referees.

With the Lions down by seven and just under two minutes left, a defensive pass interference call against Detroit cornerback Rok Ya-shin raised eyebrows. This occurred when he was defending Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown on Jalen Hurts’ incomplete pass during a critical third-and-8 play from the Philadelphia 37-yard line.

Ya-shin didn’t seem to obstruct Brown’s ability to catch the ball, and if that penalty hadn’t been called, the Eagles would have had to punt the ball, which could have given Detroit one last shot to tie the game at Lincoln Financial Field.

Instead, the Eagles retained possession at their own 45-yard line and ultimately triumphed with a score of 16-9 as time ran out.

“Oh, come on, come on. That’s just awful,” NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth commented during the game when the replay was shown. “This is an absolutely terrible call that will decide this football game.”

The Lions’ offense struggled significantly throughout the match, with head coach Dan Campbell making some questionable decisions. Still, it’s likely they would have preferred to have been given one more chance at the game’s end.

However, they left the field lamenting the missed opportunity, suffering their second loss in three games since their recent bye week. With a record of 6 wins and 4 losses, they now sit third in the NFC North, heading towards a potential wild card position.

Quarterback Jared Goff’s performance was lackluster, completing 14 of 37 attempts for 255 yards, along with one touchdown and one interception, while the running game managed a mere 74 yards.

In the meantime, following Brown’s public assessment of the Eagles’ offensive struggles, the team didn’t perform much better than when they scored just 10 points against Green Bay earlier in the week.

Hurts completed 14 passes out of 28 for 135 yards, adding a rushing touchdown. Brown topped the Eagles’ receiving charts with seven catches for 49 yards.

Philadelphia managed to run the ball 40 times for a total of 148 yards, with Saquon Barkley contributing 83 yards from 26 carries.
