Child gender transition in Texas continues despite statewide prohibition

Texas Medical Care and Transgender Treatments: A Ongoing Debate

In Texas, there’s a law barring doctors from providing transgender medical treatments to minors. Despite that, the Texas Medical Association continues to engage in these practices.

“Sometimes I feel like it’s over,” says a concerned voice on the subject. “Yet, even though Texas has put an end to this cruel practice of altering healthy body parts in children, some doctors and organizations still seem willing to perform these unacceptable procedures.” This sentiment comes from a host at Blaze TV, drawing attention to the controversy surrounding “Sara Gonzalez Unfiltered.”

Gonzalez points out that doctors within the Texas Medical Association play a crucial role in addressing transgender and gender-diverse health care needs. She highlights the growing number of patients seeking care in this area, arguing that it’s essential for these medical professionals to remain updated on best practices.

“With more and more patients with transgender or gender-diverse identities seeking assistance, it becomes vital to understand gender identity development and offer tailored support, which can help improve outcomes and establish trust,” she notes.

The lessons being offered, which focus on both youth and adult care, come at a price of $199. “Wow, what a deal to create lifelong patients. It’s hard to believe,” she adds with a hint of sarcasm.

Senate Bill 14, effective in September 2023, prohibits medical procedures related to “sex reassignment” for minors, including surgeries and hormonal treatments. Meanwhile, Texas Representative Steve Toth is raising concerns about the potential disregard for this legislation.

Gonzalez queries Toth about whether the Texas Medical Association has responded to the situation. “Nothing,” he replies, highlighting the lack of accountability.

A mother named January Littlejohn has become an advocate for parents nationwide, seeking justice for their children. She shares her frustrations about the barriers parents face in allowing their kids to transition. As Toth recounts, “She mentioned that ‘President Trump is working to shut this down.’ Right now, I’m receiving numerous calls from parents in states like Texas who are anxious that their children are being denied the opportunity to transition.”

Gonzalez, echoing the sentiment, asks, “How is this allowed to happen?”

Toth points out a significant oversight: while social transitions weren’t banned outright, the law only pertains to chemical and surgical transitions, perhaps providing room for ongoing practices. He explains, “What’s happening now is that the Texas Medical Association is advising doctors at various hospitals to administer puberty blockers under the pretense of treating precocious puberty.”

He adds, “They claim it’s not about changing the child’s sex but simply addressing early puberty. But once the child undergoes puberty, they’re being prescribed cross-sex hormones without much resistance.”

Though these treatments are often described as “reversible,” Toth asserts, “They actually aren’t reversible at all. You can’t just expect to navigate adolescence at 20 years old. That’s not how it works.”
