Futures for lithium carbonate surged nearly 9%, aided by stable downstream orders and social stocks nearing 120,000 tonnes, a figure that many analysts find quite challenging for this quarter.
Insights from China reveal that some major suppliers are anticipating further price hikes if production can’t keep pace with demand from lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery manufacturers. Recent industry figures show a notable increase in battery carbonate production compared to last year, attributed to new output from the Salt Lake project in Qinghai and an expanded processing facility in Sichuan.
Trade data highlighted that imports of carbonate raw materials from South America, especially Argentina, increased earlier this quarter as domestic producers faced rising production and seasonal issues.
