Whoopi Goldberg Missing from “The View” This Week

Whoopi Goldberg will not be on “The View” this week as she is currently working abroad.

The actress, best known for her role in “Sister Act,” shared on her Instagram Story that her absence is due to her work commitments in Italy. She included a photo of herself in a makeup chair, captioned, “If you noticed I’m not on ‘The View’ this week, it’s because I’m working in Italy.”

Goldberg, who recently celebrated her 70th birthday, explained her situation by posting another video where she attempts to speak Italian while getting a manicure.

During Monday’s episode, her co-hosts Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sarah Haines, and Alyssa Farrah Griffin carried on without her.

Earlier, Goldberg had announced her role in the Italian soap opera “Un Posto Al Sole.” In June, she expressed her excitement about the opportunity, admitting, “They know it’s a crazy idea, I know it’s a crazy idea too, but it’s great.” She also mentioned her Italian isn’t perfect, but it’s “manageable.” Her multi-episode appearance is expected to air next year.

Goldberg revealed that she accepted the role partly to keep herself busy. “I only know soap operas here,” she said during a podcast episode discussing her experience. She loves melodrama but is unsure how she will fit into the Italian format. “I don’t know how it’s going to work there… but everything will be new.”

In a lighthearted moment, she even joked that her co-hosts might be able to film something from Italy with their phones, suggesting they should explore their creative sides while she’s away.

This break comes after Behar’s recent unexplained absence from two episodes, which was later revealed to be due to a foot injury.
