Kris Boyd, a cornerback for the New York Jets, was enjoying a night out at a popular Manhattan nightclub when a confrontation escalated, leaving him with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, as per law enforcement information released Monday.
The 29-year-old was at Say Less Asian Fusion nightclub in the early hours of Sunday with teammates Jamian Sherwood and Irvin Charles when they faced harassment from a group of unruly patrons, which made Boyd uneasy.
As the players exited the venue around 2 a.m., an altercation erupted outside, during which shots were fired. Boyd was struck in the stomach as chaos ensued in the crowd, according to reports.
Footage from the scene, shared online, captured the moment two shots rang out, followed by a flurry of punches thrown as everyone rushed to protect themselves.
Boyd was quickly transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he is currently in serious but stable condition, with plans for a possible discharge as soon as Monday.
Reportedly, none of Boyd’s companions were armed at the time, including Charles, 28, who recently joined the Jets and is set to earn $1.03 million this year.
Sherwood, 25, now in his fifth season with the team, has a base salary of around $2.5 million.
Before joining the Jets this season on a $1.6 million contract, Boyd played for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans. He has been on injured reserve since sustaining a shoulder injury in August.
As of now, the New York City Police Department has not made any arrests related to the shooting, but they have released images from surveillance footage that appears to show the suspected shooter.
Also, two luxury vehicles—a BMW X6 SUV and a silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach—left the scene shortly after the incident, though authorities do not believe the suspect was inside either car.
Images from the scene reveal a Rhino GX, a high-end armored SUV, parked outside after police arrived.
The owners of Say Less have stated the club is not responsible for the violence, clarifying that the incident concerning Boyd occurred outside after closing. They claim to have cooperated fully with law enforcement and offered relevant security footage for the investigation.
In a statement, they emphasized their commitment to maintaining a safe environment for patrons and staff.
Trei Less has been a favored gathering spot for hip-hop artists and sports figures.
The club’s founder even mentioned on “Good Morning America” that Sean “Diddy” Combs once treated everyone to drinks during a visit.
As for the Jets, there has been no comment offered regarding whether Charles or Sherwood were present when Boyd was shot. A statement from team officials noted that they are aware of the situation with Boyd but have no further remarks at this time.
