Florida's Home for the Holidays Initiative: 122 Children Rescued

Operation Holiday Home Rescues 122 Missing Children in Florida

Florida Attorney General James Usmeyer announced this week that 122 missing children were rescued through Operation Holiday Home.

Usmeyer described the initiative, which involved the FBI, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), and over a dozen sheriff’s offices, as “one of the largest child rescue operations in American history.” The Tampa Bay area saw the recovery of 57 children, with others rescued in cities like Orlando, Jacksonville, and Fort Myers, as well as across nine additional states. Specifically, 22 children were found in Jacksonville, 14 in Orlando, and 29 in Fort Myers.

“Thanks to one of the largest child rescue operations in U.S. history, 122 missing children have been found safe,” Usmeyer stated. “This operation showcased the resolve and dedication of Florida law enforcement, and we are incredibly thankful to everyone who played a part in making Operation Holiday Home successful.”

The rescued children were aged between 23 months and 17 years. According to reports, the operation led to “six felony arrests, with more charges anticipated as the investigation progresses.” Additionally, the recovered children had encountered various levels of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Bill Berger, U.S. Marshal for the Middle District of Florida, commented, “The U.S. Marshals Service takes pride in collaborating with partners across Florida to ensure the safety and well-being of children.” He added, “This operation was designed around the needs and desires of our community. We are honored to lead in addressing these concerns.”

Usmeyer delivered a strong message regarding child predators, saying, “If you come to Florida looking to target our children, understand that we will pursue you with everything we have. We will hold you accountable for your actions for as long as possible, and we will not shy away from seeking the harshest penalties.”

This recovery operation builds on the success of previous efforts, including the summer’s Operation Dragon Eye, where 60 “critically missing” children were found in the Tampa Bay area.
