Independent Health Partners with MVP Health Care
Independent Health is entering into a partnership with MVP Health Care, merging the two nonprofit insurance organizations that cater to around 1 million members.
Based in Buffalo, N.Y., both companies revealed the partnership, which is pending regulatory approval. This collaboration will unify two nonprofit health insurers based in New York, allowing them to enhance their shared goal of improving health outcomes in New York and Vermont.
With this partnership, MVP and Independent Health aim to combine their resources and validate their mission to better serve the communities. Together, they will support nearly 1 million members and employ over 3,000 people in the area.
Michael W. Kropp, MD, who is the president and CEO of Independent Health, reflected on the organization’s commitment to quality care, stating that joining MVP’s family provides an opportunity to innovate while staying true to their community roots. He emphasized the importance of aligning their strengths to tackle current challenges and shape the future of healthcare, where everyone can pursue their best health.
Chris Del Vecchio, the CEO of MVP Health Care, expressed that as their family expands, they remain focused on making individuals central to their health journey. He underscored that this partnership is not just about organizational alignment but also about creating a health system that promotes vibrant living for all. This endeavor aims to accelerate innovation and reimagine the healthcare experience to better meet the evolving needs of their members.
The two organizations mentioned that their combined revenue would reach $7 billion annually, describing this as a significant opportunity for community health and a chance to enhance healthcare delivery and redefine the role of community health plans.
Independent Health has assured its members, providers, employers, and partners that operations will continue as usual, with no immediate adjustments to coverage, benefits, or community services.
