Baker Mayfield Expands Family with Second Child Announcement
Baker Mayfield, the quarterback for the Buccaneers, and his wife, Emily Mayfield, have exciting news to share — they’re expecting their second child, a boy. The couple revealed this joyful announcement through a joint Instagram post on Tuesday, expressing their happiness about the new addition arriving in April 2026.
Accompanying the post was a series of family photos, featuring their daughter, Kova Jade, who was born in April 2024. One particularly cute image shows Kova proudly holding an ultrasound picture while wearing a “Big Sis” sweatshirt. Another snapshot captures Mayfield’s amazed expression as he reacts to a blue cake.
The couple tied the knot in 2019 after meeting through a mutual friend in 2017, and they got engaged just six months later. Emily has often spoken warmly about Baker’s qualities as a father. In an interview with ESPN last month, she noted, “Baker isn’t for everyone… there’s a bit of controversy with him on the field, but he’s genuinely a sweet guy.” She emphasized her confidence in his parenting abilities, stating, “He has that little girl wrapped around his finger.”
Reflecting on how they met, Mayfield recalled his initial attempts to reach out to Emily. After their mutual friend, Patrick, asked Emily for her number and got a “no,” Mayfield turned to social media. He humorously described how hitting the follow button on Instagram didn’t yield a response, leaving him feeling somewhat dismissed. Eventually, he asked Patrick to try again for her number.
Emily shared her experience of their first lunch date, highlighting how Baker focused on learning about her and her family, rather than making it all about himself. She admitted she came away feeling a strong intuition that he might be someone she could marry.
Mayfield soon told his roommate that he planned to marry Emily. Fast forward, and the couple enjoyed their engagement within just a few months. Mayfield, notable for being the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, signed a three-year, $100 million contract with the Buccaneers in March 2024. As it stands, Tampa Bay is leading the NFC South with a current record of 6-4, despite a recent loss to the Bills.
