Zach Bryan Opens Up About Sobriety and Mental Health Challenges

Country musician Zach Bryan has recently marked two months of sobriety, a journey that began after facing intense “shattering panic attacks” and grappling with his mental health.

In a heartfelt social media post, Bryan shared details about his struggle with alcohol and the moment that led him to quit drinking entirely. He wrote about a cross-country motorcycle trip he took, spending 20 days camping and searching for clarity. At a parking lot in Seattle, he confronted the need for help.

Reflecting on his ten-year military background and newfound fame, he acknowledged how these experiences subtly impacted him. Bryan expressed feelings of unhappiness and the fear of appearing weak, which conflicted with the values he was raised with—pressing on without acknowledging struggles.

He recognized that, over time, he had become trapped in dissatisfaction, using alcohol as an escape from an internal void. “It wasn’t about the taste, but more about filling a consistent black hole inside me,” he said.

The past year also brought various challenges: online harassment, personal information breaches, caring for an injured friend, and a grueling touring schedule. All these factors culminated in panic attacks that left him feeling deeply anxious despite his apparent success.

Seeking professional help, Bryan made a conscious choice to address his unhealthy relationship with alcohol amid significant life changes. “I haven’t touched alcohol for almost two months now,” he stated, emphasizing the clarity that sobriety has brought him.

With the support of his family and girlfriend, Sammy, Bryan acknowledged the importance of prioritizing not only his own happiness but also that of his loved ones. “I feel great, I feel satisfied, I feel complete,” he expressed, urging others who might be struggling to seek help.

In his post, Bryan emphasized that it’s normal to feel vulnerable and it’s okay to ask for help. He hopes that by sharing his story, others dealing with mental health issues will feel less alone. “I’ve been lucky, but I know many suffer in silence,” he concluded.

Despite being involved in various public controversies—from an arrest to claims of emotional abuse by a former girlfriend—Bryan’s recent focus has been on his personal growth and the well-being of those around him. He candidly remarked on feeling scrutinized in recent months, likening his growth journey to attempting to grow wings while feeling like he’s falling off a cliff.

Zach Bryan’s openness about his struggles not only highlights his resilience but also serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support.
