Musk: Money Might Become Irrelevant with Advancements in AI

Elon Musk shared some intriguing thoughts on Wednesday during the US-Saudi Investment Forum. He hinted that if the current pace of developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics continues, money could lose its significance in the future.

Speaking at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Musk noted, “Assuming advances in AI and robotics continue—and they probably will—at some point, money will become irrelevant.” While he admitted that certain limitations, like power and mass, still exist, he emphasized that the concept of currency might not hold the same value going forward.

The forum’s goal, as stated on its website, is to unite leaders and visionaries, shaping the future of global investments. Discussions spanned various subjects, including AI, energy, healthcare, and finance.

Alongside Musk at the forum were Saudi Arabia’s Communications Minister, Abdullah Al-Swaha, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. They explored topics such as SpaceX’s reusable rockets and humanoid robots, as well as the rise of AI factories. President Donald Trump also contributed to the discussions, sharing the stage with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whom he had hosted at the White House earlier in the week.

This investment forum is seen as a significant effort to strengthen ties between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, celebrating a decade of collaboration and growth. Musk’s earlier meeting with Bin Salman at a similar forum in Riyadh this past May highlights the ongoing dialogue between these influential figures. Tesla’s entry into the Saudi market earlier this year also underscores this evolving partnership.
