Joe Burrow moving closer to returning to the Bengals with encouraging practice update

Joe Burrow was right back in action at practice.

The Bengals’ quarterback participated fully in Wednesday’s session, getting ready for a potential comeback after being out for two months.

Burrow sustained a toe injury during Cincinnati’s second game of the season against the Jaguars and has not played since September 14 after surgery.

This Wednesday marked Burrow’s first full practice and 11-on-11 drill since his operation.

Despite the good news, there are still questions about whether he’ll suit up for Sunday’s game against the Patriots. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was non-committal before practice.

“There’s no need to speculate until after some practices,” Taylor mentioned to the media.

The Bengals play their AFC North rivals, the Ravens, just four days later on Thanksgiving, which was originally thought to be Burrow’s target date to return from that mid-September injury.

On November 10, after returning to practice for the first time since his injury, Burrow had noted that being back for the Thanksgiving match made “a lot” of sense.

“We’ll see how the next few weeks go,” he said back then. “We’ll make a decision when the time is right.”

As the Bengals sit at a struggling 3-7 this season, the urgency for Burrow’s return is palpable. They’ve managed just one win in the eight games he’s missed.

Joe Flacco, who joined from the Browns in early October, has filled in as the starter during Burrow’s absence. He faced some limitations in Wednesday’s practice due to a shoulder injury, but is expected to lead the Bengals if Burrow can’t make it back in time.
