Kevin Spacey Reveals Homelessness Following Scandal
Kevin Spacey, the Oscar-winning actor, disclosed that he is currently homeless, eight years after a scandal related to sexual assault significantly impacted his career.
In a recent interview with a publication, he mentioned losing his Baltimore home, where he had resided for twelve years. “I live in hotels and Airbnbs,” Spacey stated, emphasizing his lack of a permanent residence.
“I go where the work is,” he added. “Literally, I don’t have a home, that’s what I’m trying to explain.”
Spacey’s troubles began in 2017 when he faced allegations of sexual crimes against four men occurring between 2004 and 2013, during his time as artistic director at London’s Old Vic Theatre. He was charged with nine offenses, including sexual assault, all of which he denied.
In July 2023, Spacey was acquitted of all nine charges. Additionally, he won a lawsuit in 2022 against fellow actor Anthony Rapp, who had accused him of sexual abuse.
“The costs over the last seven years have been astronomical,” he acknowledged, noting the financial struggles he faced during this period. “There was very little going in and everything going out.” Reflecting on his situation, he remarked, “I got through it pretty well. In a weird way, I feel like I’m right back where I started. I mean, I’m just back where the work was.”
Spacey explained that all his belongings are stored away and expressed hope about eventually settling down again, depending on how his circumstances evolve. Despite his past, he remains optimistic about rekindling his career.
“I’m in touch with some very influential people who want me back to work,” he claimed, suggesting that the industry is waiting for a signal to embrace him again. He mentioned, “So my feeling is whether Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino will call. When someone of that level of talent picks up the phone, I’m incredibly honored and delighted.”
His last film was a 2024 Italian thriller called The Contract, and he has several projects in production, including a sci-fi thriller titled “The Holligers Saga – Portal of the Force.”
Recently, he also performed in a one-man show titled “Kevin Spacey: Songs & Stories” in Cyprus. He shared his reflections on the past seven years, noting they allowed him to contemplate gratitude and the relationships in his life. The show aims to blend storytelling and music, featuring songs he had always wanted to sing but never had the chance to perform.
Spacey received a lifetime achievement award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, where he expressed that he emerged from challenging times without bitterness, feeling more loving and understanding than ever before.
