Putin Watches Robot Dance at Moscow AI Expo
During an AI exhibition in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin was filmed watching a humanoid robot perform a dance. This occurred on Wednesday, and it seems to have received quite a bit of attention.
The video captured the robot, named Green, twirling in front of Putin, who remarked, “It’s so beautiful. Thank you,” before moving on. This moment quickly became a highlight on television and was even aired on state channels.
The demonstration was put together by Sberbank and happened at the AI Journey conference, where Putin was accompanied by a team of bodyguards.
As the video progressed, viewers saw a bodyguard approaching Putin as the robot introduced itself. “My name is Green. I am Russia’s first humanoid robot with built-in artificial intelligence,” it stated in Russian. Green went on to explain that it isn’t just a program but a physical representation of technology.
Green showcased its abilities, claiming, “Thanks to over 40 motors and various sensors, I can move smoothly, maintain balance, and interact safely with individuals.” The robot also mentioned a favorite song and requested the virtual assistant to play it, leading into a dance routine featuring the folk-pop track “The Sun Rose High.” At one point, a somewhat anxious bodyguard intervened to make sure everything went as planned.
This performance contrasts sharply with an earlier viral incident in which another humanoid robot, named Idol, tripped and fell almost immediately after being introduced to an audience.
It’s interesting how these moments capture both the potential and the quirks of emerging technologies. Many can’t help but feel a mix of amazement and, perhaps, a little embarrassment for the robots involved. It’s all part of the learning curve, I suppose.
