President Trump announces 2028 Olympics task force

Recently, President Donald Trump has revealed the creation of a task force aimed at managing logistics for the upcoming 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. This was discussed by White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly on “Fox & Friends First.”

The committee organizing the Los Angeles Olympics has brought former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Trump’s ex-chief of staff, Reince Priebus, onto its board. This shift occurs as Trump seems to have become more assertive regarding his role in the Olympics.

Back in August, Trump signed an executive order to set up an Olympic task force within the White House, focusing on national security and other key issues. One of the main goals of this task force will be to enhance coordination between federal, state, and local bodies concerning transportation. It also aims to simplify visa processing and the certification of foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media personnel.

Trump’s influence has extended to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), particularly regarding policies on gender eligibility in women’s sports. In July, the USOPC updated its safety policy to align itself with Trump’s order “banning men from women’s sports.”

The policy states, “The USOPC will continue to work with various stakeholders to guarantee a fair and safe competitive setting for women, in line with Executive Order 14201.”

During the task force announcement, Trump addressed questions about mandatory genetic testing in women’s sports, asserting there would be a “very strong form of testing.”

At the recent USOPC Media Summit, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jonathan Finoff shared that while the SRY genetic test, used in some sports, is “not common” in the U.S., the USOPC is pondering whether to implement sex testing as an option for its teams. He noted that they aim to assist athletes in finding testing facilities for this purpose.

Dr. Finoff mentioned, “It’s not necessarily common to get this test in the United States, so we wanted to help athletes find options. With other international federations likely to make similar moves, we are currently working on making this process seamless.”

Furthermore, USOPC Board Chair Gene Sykes remarked that Trump’s executive order aligns with trends seen internationally. He stated, “Fortunately, the executive order aimed at protecting women’s sports in the United States mirrors global progress.” There’s a consensus that this could reflect the future direction of international sports.
