Rachel Maddow Attends Dick Cheney’s Funeral

Rachel Maddow, host of MS NOW, drew attention on Thursday when she attended the funeral of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Sitting alongside Dr. Anthony Fauci at the Washington National Cathedral, her presence was unexpected, especially as she once referred to Cheney as a “master of terror.” Meanwhile, veteran Democratic strategist James Carville indicated a narrow win by just two seats.

Her attendance surprised many, causing observers to reflect on the evolving nature of American politics. Peter Baker, a correspondent for the New York Times, noted on social media, “If anyone needed more proof of how American politics has changed, Rachel Maddow was at Dick Cheney’s funeral.”

Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald remarked on Maddow’s early criticism of Cheney during the Bush administration, suggesting that for some liberals, Cheney’s reputation has softened because he opposed Trump.

Susan Glasser from The New Yorker humorously commented, “I got a hug from Rachel Maddow at Dick Cheney’s funeral. Cue the pigs flying by.”

After the service, Maddow reflected on Cheney’s impact, stating he changed the country in ways she largely disagrees with. However, she expressed admiration for how his daughter, former Rep. Liz Cheney, confronted Trump. “I think it was a really heroic stand. It was humbling for me,” she said, emphasizing the importance of standing up for principles.

Maddow hasn’t responded to requests for comments from Fox News Digital.

Cheney’s memorial attracted numerous political figures. Alongside Maddow and Fauci, notable attendees included former Presidents George W. Bush and Joe Biden, Vice Presidents Kamala Harris, Mike Pence, and Al Gore, and many prominent congressional members, such as Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Nancy Pelosi.

Interestingly, former President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance were notably absent, as they were not invited. Cheney and Liz Cheney had previously supported Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
