Keon Coleman Talks with Tracy McGrady Before Game

Before the Buffalo Bills faced the Texans in Houston, wide receiver Keon Coleman had an engaging chat with minority team owner Tracy McGrady on the field. This conversation came after Coleman was benched for the second consecutive game, following an incident where he was late to a team meeting.

While the exact details of their discussion aren’t clear, the video shows McGrady seemingly explaining something significant to Coleman.

McGrady, a notable part of the Bills’ minority ownership group, shares this distinction with NBA legend Vince Carter and former U.S. soccer star Jozy Altidore.

Coleman, drafted 33rd overall by the Bills in the 2024 NFL Draft, didn’t play in their 44-32 victory over the Buccaneers last week due to his tardiness.

In Thursday’s contest at NRG Stadium, Coleman was again a healthy scratch as the Texans’ defense stifled Buffalo, leading to a 23-19 defeat. Notably, Bills quarterback Josh Allen faced considerable pressure, being sacked eight times during the game.

This benching marked the fourth occasion of disciplinary action for Coleman in just two years. His previous sidelining included an earlier game against the Patriots and a first-quarter punishment against the Jaguars during his rookie season.

Despite an impressive start to the season with eight catches for 112 yards and a touchdown in a surprising win against the Ravens, Coleman’s performance has dwindled. The current season statistics show he has 32 catches for 330 yards and three touchdowns.

Head coach Sean McDermott has clarified that the decision to bench Coleman was his alone. He expressed his belief in Coleman, stating, “I still believe in this young man. I try to give players an aggressive approach…to show teammates they’re more than just their mistakes.”

Coleman acknowledged his missteps and mentioned he and McDermott were aligned on the importance of accountability. “Being where you’re supposed to be…you have to avoid those mistakes. It’s part of being a professional,” he commented.

Looking ahead, the Bills, now at 7-4, are set to face the Steelers, who are currently 6-4, next Sunday.
