Update on Bucky Irving’s Situation
Fans seeking clarity on Bucky Irving’s uncertain status might find themselves with even more questions now. Buccaneers’ Coach Todd Bowles recently offered a rare update after it was confirmed that Irving wouldn’t be playing in Week 12 due to troubling reports regarding potential off-field challenges.
Reflecting on his own experiences, Bowles mentioned, “I got hurt without much experience off the field. It was my first injury, and honestly, I didn’t handle it well.” He went on to affirm that Irving had been practicing well this week and is expected to play in the upcoming game against Arizona. “We’re preparing him for that,” Bowles said.
While there’s some optimism with Bowles’ comments suggesting a return next week could mark the end of Irving’s lengthy absence, concerns surrounding the player’s well-being persist. Officially, he’s dealing with shoulder and foot issues, as reported by the team’s injury report, where he participated in limited practices earlier in the week.
However, Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk noted on Thursday that Irving’s return might not be imminent. It sounds like he may have more than just physical issues to deal with. Florio expressed, “Honestly, I’m not sure if Bucky Irving will be back this weekend,” indicating a deeper concern about his circumstances.
Irving hasn’t played since his last game on September 28 against the Eagles and has struggled both physically and mentally, as the Tampa Bay Times highlighted. The latest reports suggest that he has also been coping with the loss of a family member.
The Buccaneers, sitting at 6-4, really could use Irving back in the lineup, especially since they have faced challenges recently, losing three of their last four games as they prepare for a crucial game on Sunday. During his rookie season last year, Irving made quite an impact, stepping in for starter Rashard White and contributing significantly with 237 rushing yards and two receiving touchdowns in just the first four games.
Meanwhile, Sean Tucker has stepped up in recent weeks, providing valuable support to the Buccaneers’ backfield as they navigate this tough stretch.
