Brad Stevens of the Celtics vague about Jaylen Brown after Giannis situation

Possible Trade Rumors Surround Jaylen Brown

Brad Stevens seems to be leaving some room for speculation regarding the future of Jaylen Brown.

With Brown’s situation in limbo—especially after being part of the Celtics’ attempt to secure Giannis Antetokounmpo—Stevens, the Celtics’ president of basketball operations, expressed uncertainty about Brown’s future.

“Jaylen Brown is a big part of who we are,” Stevens told reporters recently. “I don’t want to predict the future. I see it as this is our team.”

Brown, who joined the Celtics in 2016, was reportedly seen as a key piece in the team’s strategy to acquire Antetokounmpo, with mock trades suggesting he would be sent to the Bucks along with two first-round picks.

Stevens refrained from discussing how close they were to trading for Antetokounmpo before his move to the Heat, but his remarks don’t necessarily assure that Brown will be with the Celtics for the long haul.

When asked if trade rumors might have strained Brown’s relationship with the team, Stevens was hesitant to provide a definitive answer, suggesting it’s hard to truly understand Brown’s perspective.

“Maybe you should ask him,” Stevens commented. “I mean, it’s not fun. I get that. It’s not enjoyable to deal with. But my role is to be as open and candid as possible…”

He continued, “We aim to keep things under wraps. However, we know there’s a lot of chatter out there. That’s why we meet and communicate as openly as we can.”

Last season, Brown mentioned it was his “favorite year of my basketball career,” which might be attributed to him being the Celtics’ main focus until Jayson Tatum returned from injury.

Brown still has three years remaining on his five-year contract and has played a significant role in the Celtics’ achievements over the last decade.

At 29 years old, he is a five-time All-Star. The Celtics have made playoff appearances every year, and Brown has consistently averaged over 20 points per game since the 2019-20 season.

Notably, Brown was named Finals MVP in 2024, the last time the Celtics clinched the title, and has the most postseason wins in the NBA—83—since debuting in the playoffs in 2017.
