REX Drone ETF Offers Investors Access to Growing Drone Sector

The drone economy is gaining momentum, opening up new avenues for investors interested in this burgeoning industry. Recently, the REX Drone exchange-traded fund was introduced, dedicating 80% of its assets to firms that heavily rely on drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for their revenue.

REX CEO Greg King spoke about the excitement surrounding drones, particularly highlighting their military applications. “Ukraine and the Middle East are employing them in various operations,” he noted. There’s a significant shift in defense budgets from traditional weaponry towards UAVs, but what’s particularly captivating to King is the commercial side. Sectors are seeing an uptick in services like delivery, surveillance, and inspections which are now coalescing around this theme.

In military contexts, drones have really transformed operations. For instance, Ondas Holdings, which represents the largest stake in the fund, provides aviation intelligence and next-gen connectivity aimed at enhancing security.

The second key player, AeroVironment, is recognized for its innovative “switchblade” loitering weapon system, which has been pivotal in various combat scenarios, ensuring that troops maintain a tactical edge in challenging environments.

Another notable name, Palantir Technologies, has earned respect for its exclusive support for U.S. military initiatives, particularly through software that aids artificial intelligence in data analysis.

The drone sector is projected to grow at an annual rate of 8% to 10%, with estimates suggesting it could reach $60 billion by 2030, as more industries begin to leverage this technology.

King elaborated on commercial applications alongside military uses, noting the emergence of drones in agriculture, pipeline monitoring, and deliveries to remote locations via companies like Amazon, Walmart, and UPS. It’s difficult to predict which segment will dominate, hence the broad coverage by the ETF.

DRNZ aims to provide a comprehensive investment vehicle for those looking to capitalize on growth in this sector. King draws parallels to the evolution of efficiency in communication—thinking back to homing pigeons and realizing how far technology has come with drones. “It’s definitely an exhilarating field,” he concluded.
