Measles exposure verified at GSP airport and a church in the Upstate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) reports that measles cases in the Upstate have exceeded 50.

According to officials, two new cases are linked to known cases in households, while a third resulted from unidentified community transmission.

The DPH noted that 137 individuals are currently in quarantine and one individual is in isolation:

  • 57 from Lyman Elementary
  • 55 from Boiling Springs Middle School
  • One from D.R. Hill Middle School

Students who remain symptom-free while quarantined are expected to return to classes on November 29.

Additionally, the DPH is warning the public about a confirmed measles case involving an employee at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. This could have exposed visitors on November 10 and 11, 2025, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day.

Following the diagnosis, airport officials released a statement:

“We were recently informed of the confirmed measles case involving an individual who works at the airport. As of now, this individual is not employed by the GSP Airport District. We don’t have further details about their role or movements, but we urge anyone who might have been exposed on November 10 or 11 to follow the Department of Public Health’s guidelines.”

“For context, the GSP Airport District has around 250 employees, but the airport supports over 2,000 jobs across a variety of employers, including airlines and rental cars.”

DPH also confirmed that an individual attended the Way of Truth Church in Inman while contagious. Anyone who was present on Friday, November 7 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday, November 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. may have been exposed.

Those who may have been exposed, particularly those without immunity from vaccination or prior infection, should watch for symptoms until November 30 if they were at the church, or until December 2 if they were at the airport.

Currently, the DPH reports a total of 52 cases in the Upstate outbreak and 55 cases reported statewide this year.
