Giants Running Back Discusses Injury
Cam Skatebo, the Giants’ running back, recently opened up about his severe ankle injury, sharing his experience on YouTube’s N3on show.
“At the hospital, they told me it was the worst kind of injury,” Skatebo revealed.
This injury, which ended his season, happened during a matchup against the Eagles in Week 8. Skatebo, who quickly became a fan favorite as a rookie, didn’t hold back on the specifics.
“I fractured my fibula, which is the outer bone,” he explained. “Then I tore a ligament, right here,”—he gestured to his foot—“and there was a complete dislocation of the ankle. It was at about a 90-degree angle. A tendon in my ankle that connects two bones also ruptured.”
He went on to describe the surgical procedure he underwent, explaining, “They put something called a tightrope in there. They drill a hole in the bone and it holds everything together. But if it tears again, it’s really tough to fix.”
Despite the severity of his injury, Skatebo expressed a bit of relief, saying, “The worst-case scenario would have been if I had bad cartilage in my ankle. That would have meant a longer recovery.”
Before the injury, Skatebo had impressive stats—617 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns—significantly contributing to the Giants alongside rookie quarterback Jackson Dart.
During his recovery, Skatebo has stayed active. He made an appearance on Monday Night Raw at Madison Square Garden, where he joined Dominik Mysterio in a fun skit.
Looking ahead, Skatebo shared an optimistic outlook for next season. “This year probably won’t turn out well, but next year will be something else,” he stated confidently. “I think we’ll finish 12-5 in the regular season, and then obviously, there will be the playoffs.”
