Both parties confused by the friendly meeting between Trump and Mamdani

A surprising encounter unfolded when President Donald Trump met with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House. This meeting had been anticipated, especially since Mamdani and Trump had a rocky relationship during the mayoral race.

Upon leaving the meeting, both appeared to be in high spirits, emphasizing their common affection for the city while seemingly downplaying their previous disagreements.

“It seemed a bit like a bromance,” remarked GOP Representative Nicole Malliotakis from New York. “We knew Mamdani had charm; who realized he could charm the president?”

Some contributors from the MAGA camp took Trump’s amicable demeanor as a positive sign. One social media user wrote, “I LOVE IT. This was such a power move by President Trump,” highlighting how Mamdani was nodding along during their conversation.

Another user noted, “Trump is in complete control and relaxed. Mamdani seems a bit nervous and out of his depth.”

On the flip side, Senator Elizabeth Warren wasn’t as impressed with Trump’s behavior after the meeting. She said, “Is it surprising that Trump wants to align himself with Mamdani? He’s attempting to grab some of that shine.”

Warren pointed out that Trump’s friendly demeanor stems from issues over affordability, which is crucial to Mamdani’s platform. “Prices are rising, and his poll numbers are dropping. He has a real problem,” she added.

Meanwhile, Curtis Sliwa, Mamdani’s rival and founder of the Guardian Angels, criticized both leaders. He suggested they had misled the public during the election. Sliwa likened their relationship to a theatrical performance, stating they claimed one another to be extremes but have turned around for a friendly chat. “It feels like we’ve all been played,” he commented.

Sliwa insisted that while maintaining a respectful rapport with Trump is essential for New York’s leader, Trump and Mamdani owe an apology for stoking animosity among their supporters.
