Woman almost suffers serious injury in sideline clash with Miami player

Miami’s Close Call Amid Victory

It was a tense moment during Miami’s recent game against Virginia Tech, where they secured a 34-17 win on the road. In the second quarter, a woman fell victim to a severe sideline collision.

With under two minutes until halftime and a lead of 17-3, Miami’s senior quarterback Carson Beck launched a deep pass to freshman receiver Malachi Toney. The 5-foot-11 wide receiver sprinted down the left side, achieving a 56-yard gain before being pushed out of bounds just outside the red zone.

In a frightening turn, Toney collided with the woman at full speed. She momentarily jumped back, narrowly escaping a serious injury as she came to a halt just inches from a concrete barrier and iron railing.

Toney, visibly shaken, rushed toward her group. Thankfully, she quickly got back on her feet and appeared unharmed after the alarming accident.

On a brighter note, Toney had a standout game, achieving personal bests with 12 receptions, 146 receiving yards, and adding 16 yards rushing. He capped off his impressive performance with a 20-yard touchdown catch, leading to a “Night Night” celebration that excited Miami fans while sealing the victory.

This touchdown marked Beck’s fourth passing touchdown of the game, which ties his season-high. With this win, Miami has now won three consecutive games and stands with an overall record of 9-2. In contrast, Virginia Tech’s struggles continued as they suffered their third consecutive loss, bringing their record to 3-8 under new head coach James Franklin.

Franklin, who part ways with Penn State in mid-October, will now be heading a well-funded program at Virginia Tech, with $229 million earmarked for the athletic department over the next four years. Perhaps the next investment should be in padded sideline walls.
