Steelers' TJ Watt surpasses his brother's sack record

TJ Watt Sets Family Record in Sacks

This past Sunday, TJ Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers made headlines by becoming the family’s new record holder for sacks during a game against the Chicago Bears.

In a critical moment in the second quarter, with the Bears pinned at their own 10-yard line, Caleb Williams couldn’t find a receiver. While under pressure, he attempted to escape to his right to evade Watt but ended up fumbling the ball in the end zone.

Steelers linebacker Nick Herbig quickly pounced on the loose ball, scoring a touchdown and pushing Pittsburgh ahead 14-7.

With this sack, Watt notched his 115th career sack, surpassing his brother JJ Watt’s previous record of 114.5 sacks, achieved while playing for the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.

TJ Watt has been a pivotal member of the Steelers’ defense ever since the team selected him 30th overall in the 2017 draft. He’s been named first-team All-Pro four times and has earned Pro Bowl selections seven times, with the exception of his rookie year.

Going into this game, Watt had accumulated six sacks and 38 tackles over ten games this season, alongside an interception from a previous matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in September.

Both the Steelers and the Bears approached this game keen to secure a win and maintain their standings atop their respective divisions.

Notably, the Steelers were without Aaron Rodgers, who had sustained a fractured left wrist the previous week.
