Minnesota mother Shiloh Hendrix on trial for using a racial slur against an autistic boy

Trial Date Set for Minnesota Mother in Racist Playground Incident

A trial has been scheduled for a Minnesota mother accused of racially insulting a 5-year-old Black child at a playground, a moment captured in a viral video. The mother, Shiloh Hendricks, 36, allegedly portrayed herself as the victim and managed to raise substantial funds through a fundraiser.

Hendricks faces three counts of disorderly conduct due to the alarming incident that took place on April 28 in Rochester, Minnesota.

Prosecutors announced that her trial will commence on August 31, with a pretrial hearing set for August 21.

Hendricks has a history of prior convictions, including drunk driving and disorderly conduct, and she has pleaded not guilty to the current charges.

This situation gained widespread attention in early May when a 30-year-old named Shahmeik Omar documented Hendricks allegedly using the “N-word” to refer to a young boy.

In the brief video, Hendricks can be seen using derogatory slurs, claiming the child represents a misuse of the welfare system.

The 49-second clip depicts her holding her child while confronting Omar. In the exchange, she acknowledges using hateful language and defends her actions, even accusing the boy of taking items from her son’s diaper bag.

Viewers reacted strongly, condemning her behavior in various online comments.

After the video’s release, Hendricks identified herself and initiated a fundraiser on GiveSendGo to gather money for what she described as protection for her family.

She claimed her personal information had been made public and stated the need for funds to move her family to safety.

By May 6, the campaign had amassed over $700,000, attracting donations from both supporters of her actions and individuals aligned with extremist views.

In light of the controversy, GiveSendGo has opted to disable comments on its fundraising pages.
