Search for Morgan Geyser Concludes
The search for Morgan Geyser, the Wisconsin woman involved in the 2014 “Slender Man” stabbing, has come to a close, as per authorities’ announcement on Sunday night.
Madison police reported that Geyser was apprehended in Illinois at around 10:34 p.m., which marked the end of a frantic manhunt.
Authorities stated that Geyser had removed her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and fled from a group home in Madison on Saturday night.
Her escape was shared on social media by Madison police on Sunday.
“Morgan Geyser was last seen with an adult companion near Kroenke Dr. around 8 p.m. Her location was unknown as of Sunday morning,” the police noted.
The department was informed of her disappearance on Sunday morning.
They added, “A recent security video image of Geyser from last month is attached below. If you see her, please contact 911.”
In 2017, Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide for the violent stabbing of Peyton Leutner but attempted to argue that she was not accountable due to mental illness.
She had stated that her intention to harm Leutner was to appease the fictional horror character Slender Man. Ultimately, she was deemed not guilty by reason of mental defect.
Geyser, along with her friend Anissa Weier, were just 12 years old when they led Leutner to Arboretum during a sleepover in May 2014.
During the encounter, Geyser, spurred on by Weier, stabbed Leutner 19 times, but she remarkably survived.
Geyser has spent the last seven years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. She was originally sentenced to 40 years in a psychiatric facility, with the possibility of requesting a conditional release every six months.
Police informed a local news station that Geyser had been living at a group home in Madison prior to her disappearance.
