Stephen A. Smith’s Strong Warning to Browns Coach
On Monday, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith expressed concerns to Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski about the potential fallout if Shedeur Sanders isn’t named the starting quarterback for Week 13. Following Sanders’ impressive touchdown performance in the Browns’ 24-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders—making him the first rookie quarterback to win in his debut since 1995—there’s mounting excitement among fans regarding his future with the team.
Smith appeared on “First Take” and hinted at possible unrest among fans if Stefanski doesn’t make the call. “I really don’t like that Stefanski is hesitating about naming his starter,” he remarked. “At the very least, he could have confirmed that. It’s absurd not to acknowledge it when we know he’ll end up doing it anyway. If you don’t start Shedeur Sanders this weekend, trust me, there will be a revolt in Cleveland.”
Smith further asserted that Sanders has “earned his spot as the starting quarterback for the rest of the season,” especially given that he took over for Dillon Gabriel, who was sidelined due to a concussion in Week 11.
Stefanski remarked positively on Sanders’ ability to read the game during the match. “All of our quarterbacks are doing well and engage in the same discussions every week,” he said. “They’re in a unique position to see things from different angles than we do on the sideline, which is crucial. I think he did an excellent job in that regard. Can he contribute more with younger players? Definitely.”
