Challenge in Florida Gubernatorial Race
Rep. Byron Donald, a Republican from Florida, is facing new competition in his campaign to replace Governor Ron DeSantis. Just recently, another Republican contender has stepped into the race.
On Monday morning, James Fishback, who is the founder and CEO of Azoria, an investment firm, officially announced his bid for the 2026 gubernatorial election.
In a statement he shared on social media, Fishback critiqued Donald’s chances, stating, “Congressman Byron Donald won’t be the next governor because he won’t fight for Florida like Ron DeSantis.” He also shared a campaign video where he mentioned various initiatives, including addressing H-1B fraud and stopping investment firms like Blackstone from purchasing homes.
Fishback emphasized the need for a governor who would not support policies that harm workers, saying, “If a Republican politician supports H-1B fraud that lays off workers, he can’t be the next governor.”
His video, which was posted on X, promotes his outsider status, with Fishback declaring, “I’m not a politician. I’m an investor and a businessman.” He pledged to visit all 67 counties in Florida, emphasizing the importance of being accessible to voters.
“Florida is our home, America is our birthright, and we will never let them steal it,” he asserted, highlighting his commitment to the state’s families.
Fishback’s focus on making Florida affordable is evident on his campaign profile. He also founded an organization aimed at fostering debate among middle and high school students.
Currently, Byron Donald represents Florida’s 19th Congressional District and has the backing of Donald Trump in this gubernatorial race. He is leading in early polling against former Republican David Jolly.
Fishback is now part of a crowded field, joining over 30 other candidates vying for the governorship.
As Fishback continues his campaign, it remains to be seen how this competition will unfold.
