Kevin Spacey Responds to Homeless Rumors
Recently, a media frenzy erupted over reports suggesting that actor Kevin Spacey was “homeless.” This weekend, Spacey addressed these claims, criticizing the media for prioritizing attention-grabbing headlines over truth.
Just last week, an interview with Spacey published in The Telegraph stirred up controversy. The headline made a striking claim: “Kevin Spacey Interview: Homeless, Canceled, Hunkers Down in Cyprus.”
This article, which involved journalist Mick Brown, quickly spread through various news outlets, leading many to assert that Spacey was indeed homeless. It might have seemed plausible given that Spacey has previously mentioned his substantial financial troubles, largely due to legal fees from multiple sexual harassment lawsuits. He’s reportedly millions in debt now.
During a past interview with Piers Morgan, Spacey visibly struggled as he spoke about the significant financial burden he was facing in light of the #MeToo movement and sexual assault allegations. He mentioned that he had lost nearly all his income and even revealed that he currently lacks a permanent residence.
Now, responding to the speculation, Spacey clarified that he was not homeless in the typical sense. Instead, he noted that he had sold his home to address his legal costs and hadn’t yet purchased a new place. “Everything is in storage,” he said. “If things get better, I think we will decide on a place to settle again.”
In his effort to set the record straight on social media, he explained, “Hello everyone. It’s not my job to usually correct the media, but given the recent articles about my supposed homelessness, I feel it’s important to address it—not for the press, but for those who have reached out to me.”
He expressed gratitude for the many offers from people wanting to help, but he insisted that it would be misleading to call his situation homelessness. In his chat with Brown, he had mentioned living in hotels and on the move in search of work, similar to when he was starting out in his career.
Spacey continued, “I empathize with those who are truly homeless, and it pains me to see them suffer. But it’s clear from the context of the article that I’m not in that situation. The choice by The Telegraph to craft misleading headlines is unfortunate.”
He wrapped up his message with a note of appreciation. “Thank you for your generosity and for the kindness you’ve shown me. I will now let you get back to your life. See you soon.”
Ultimately, Spacey reassured fans that he is doing fine. He explained that his decision not to purchase a house stems from actively pursuing opportunities rather than needing a fixed address at this time.
